Copper(I) complexes with remotely functionalized phosphine ligands: Synthesis, structural variety, photophysics and effect onto the optical properties

The synthesis, chemical and photophysical investigation of a series eight novel copper-halide derivatives with different nuclearity is herein presented. One mononuclear copper(I) complex formula [CuI(pyridine)(P)2], where P functionalized phosphine, six dinuclear bearing the rhombic {Cu2I2} subunits general [Cu(?-I)(P)(N)]2 (N = pyridine, quinoline 4-cyanopyridine) as well one tetranuclear copper-iodide clusters [Cu(?-I)P]4 consisting cubane-like {Cu4X4} motif were straightforwardly prepared, also by means mechano-chemical synthetic procedure. phosphine ligands prepared in excellent yield using simple hydrophosphination reactions. For five investigated cuprous iodide their atom connectivity solid-state crystalline packing was unambiguously confirmed solving single-crystal X-ray structure. All complexes resulted into photo- thermally-stable luminescent species. In solid state microcrystalline powder samples, display intense photoluminescence ranging from sky-blue to orange-red portion spectrum PLQY values 0.28–0.50 0.34–0.97 at room low (77 K) temperature, respectively, depending on nature both coordinated N-heteroaromatic ring ligands. spite remote location functionalization profound effects are observed onto emission properties highlighting importance microenvironment for emitters aggregated phase.
